Bakels MD elected Master of Worshipful Company

British Bakels managing director Paul Morrow has been elected as the new Master of The Worshipful Company of Bakers.

Morrow took up the role at The Worshipful Company’s annual election dinner, held in London’s Mansion House on Monday (26 November). He replaces His Honour Stephen Kramer QC.

In his acceptance speech, Morrow said one of his objectives for his year as Master would be to ensure the Worshipful Company was relevant to the baking trade, primarily through involvement in supporting bakery education. He will also represent The Worshipful Company at trade functions throughout the year.

Born in Northern Ireland, Morrow graduated from the University of Leeds with a combined Honours degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Initially working in the dairy industry at United Dairies London, Morrow’s involvement with baking began in 1984 when he joined British Fermentation Products, parent Company of BFP Wholesale, as national sales distribution manager.

He was later promoted to sales and marketing director, where he oversaw the roll-out of cream yeast and other products that are still in the market, such as Energie bread improver.

He left BFP to join British Bakels as managing director in 1994 and, in 2009 was appointed to the management board of the Bakels Group as technical and purchasing director.

Morrow has also been chairman of the British Society of Baking, president of the Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees, and UK representative on the EU bakery ingredients trade association FEDIMA.
